OK Then
Well, still nothing hear about the mortgage, so I'm saying nothing about that, full stop...

I have just come across this on the internet, though:

It really shows that some people are willing to get behind open source. They're taking a free product, Ubuntu 6.06 LTS, and packaging it up in fancy box, with manuals, and other free merchandise and then selling it with their own support package. This sort of thing is exactly what's going to bring gnu/Linux to the masses.

While I did testing for Dapper Drake (6.06) I think I will pass on testing 6.10 for a while, as Catherine has told me I'm not allowed to 'break' anything. So, until I am able to test 'Edgy Eft' (which won't be until after we move, so I might not be able to test at all...) I am going to follow the development and hope for a few small things.
1. When I turn off my computer I would like it to actually turn off, not have X lock up and have to turn off the computer manually with the off switch without it shutting down propperly.
2. Less dependencies. Why, oh why, should I need to remove superkaramba, just to remove xmms? They never depended on eachother when I used Mandriva/Mandrake.
3. Auto-mount FAT32 and NTFS partitions with write access to regular users. Damn, ubuntu's main audience is windows converts, they will mostly be dual-booting and will want to access their windows files without having to manually edit fstab tables or chmod the folders.
4. Less obsession with mono, dammit! I don't want extra kernel modules increasing my boot time to load apps that I want, but rarely use.

OK, that's my rant done, lol. See you all later.

Well...
It certainly seems that I wasn't wrong with my last post. I find it quite ironic that the only post here now with advertising comment-spam is the one where I complained about advertising comment-spam. Berloody Rediculous.

Anyway, If you haven't read my MSN Space you won't know I've moved house, it was MAD! So stressful and Catherine wanted everything sorted straight away, so no relaxing after lugging heavy boxes in from the van oh no!! We spent the following two weeks getting everything sorted, painting the house (we did ask the landlady first, don't worry) and moving furniture about. After that, I started looking for a job again, and again, I couldn't get one, cos I don't have the BPS accreddiatation. So there we go...
Then I finally gave up on pyschology, I'm taking the BPS Qualifying Exam in June and psychology can wait until after that. I joined a temp agency and I'm now working for the government. I'm an AO/Span 3 in the Tribunal Service in the Visit Visa section, dealing mostly with appeals for family visit clearance from Pakistan and Nigeria. It's not bad and it pays well, so I'm happy doing that for now.
I wrote to a few psychoanalysts yesterday, asking for advice on how to get to where I want to be. Afterall, I'm not going to do a PhD in clinical psychology, so jobs in the NHS are pretty limited and highly competed, fingers crossed I'll hear back sometime soon.

Also, I've not used Windows now for almost three months... hee hee!! Been using ubuntu linux, with KDE (not kubuntu, ubuntu with KDE) and once I have the time, I'm planning on playing around with linux from scratch to learn a bit more, before settling with gentoo, since LFS doesn't have a very easy update mechinism.

R.I.P Mandrake/Mandriva - Long Live Ubuntu
Originally posted on my MSN Spaces Blog yesterday (so dates may be a *little* wrong)
Well, then. I've decided I Love ubuntu (kubuntu to be precice) and I've finally rid myself of dependency hell with mandrake/mandriva. ubuntu is a FREE linux distribution based on debain. While I'm no fan of debain, I love apt-get so much more than urpmi (which was evil, yes, evil... like the fru-its of the de-vil *nod to Mike Myers :p*)
lol... Anyway. I installed ubuntu and then:
"apt-get install kubuntu-desktop"
from a terminal in gnome to install kde (best to do it that way round than install kubuntu from the off and wind up with problems with GTK etc. lol.)
I can now say that I finally feel free to stay in linux more often than windows, and as soon as pc games will play on linux, I will ditch microsoft forever!!! Mwahahahahahaha!!!
In other news. I have my Driving Theory exam tomorrow and I've not revised for it...
