Facebook
I finally let people convince me to join facebook and now I have a profile there. I keep getting friends requests which makes me feel so popular... The only thing is, some of these people I don't know, other's I haven't spoken to in years (and even now they're on my friends list, they've said nothing)

So I am wondering, is having friends on facebook an indication of how many friends you have in real life or more an indication of your self esteem level. Now this wouldn't work in all cases, but I wonder if the people who add bazillions of people as friends (and happen the 'I met this person no Facebook' category completely) is an indication of low self esteem? Maybe I'll do some research into this some day...

Painting and such...
I am shattered, who would have thought that decorating your new house would be so tiring? Surely it's just supposed to be fun?
Okay, so I am enjoying it really, but my arms are killing me... The paint work was done on Thursday and so I spent today and yesterday sorting all the fixtures and fittings; plug sockets, light switches and the dreaded lights themselves. I swear, the existing cabling in this place is so shabby! I think it's all sorted and stuff, but still, my arms are killing me from reaching above my head all day trying to force this light fitting over a messy bundle of wires that protrude from the ceiling... But, as I said, it's all sorted now... I hope... o.O

Anyway, in other news, I finally got my promotion!! Wahey!! I'm already planning for the next one, too, fingers crossed please!

Oh, and before I forget, as promised before... New photos from the Leicester Rocky Horror outing!

Finally found the time!!
So it's been a while since my last update. Alot has happened since then:

and I'm moving around the office helping different sections with their Firstly, I applied for a permanent job at work (I was only on a fixed-term contract) but I had to settle for a demotion in order to get the permanent position. Apparently, the application form I had showed to various managers and senior managers, all of whom had said it was really good, was actually quite bad... It's a conspiracy!!! Not to worry, though, as I've been 'deputised' to the grade I was at before, as I'm fully trained and competent on alot of areas of the business' arrears, so it's not all bad and there's another recruitment drive at the moment, though.
*fingers crossed*

Well, we finally moved house in the end and we've been here about four weeks now. And what a hard four weeks they've been, I haven't had a single weekend where I've been able to just sit down and relax, if only for half an hour. We spent last week mostly with no hot water and no heating, as British Gas were putting in a new central heating system. The old system wasn't working properly and although the boiler made hot water, it never got upstairs to the tank, such a waste of money...
Anyway, British Gas were really good, although the specific plumber we had was awful. British Gas have been great, though. So, this weekend, Catherine decided we were sorting out a new bathroom... When will it ever stop!?!

There's also other stuff going on... And I will post a pic of Rocky Horror from October (yeah, we went again!!) when I have time, but this is all I have time to sit down and type at the moment.

Dreams and stuff...
Aren't dreams funny? Once I'm more qualified it's an area I want to do alot of research in. How you can dream about things you're worried about, how you can find solutions to problems in your sleep and other such things... It's all so strange, especially since the leading medical views on dreams are that it's simply random neuronal activity with no deeper meaning whatsoever!!

In other news, I am sorry for not updating more frequently, but I have been on detached duty at another office recently, so I have been getting up earlier and coming home later. Since I got a permanent job in the recruitment drive, but I will be taking a pay cut, I need to show how competent I am, in hope of getting a promotion back to the span I am at currently.

The house situation is coming along, seems we are almost ready to set a completion date, so I am getting quite giddy!!

OK Then
Well, still nothing hear about the mortgage, so I'm saying nothing about that, full stop...

I have just come across this on the internet, though:

It really shows that some people are willing to get behind open source. They're taking a free product, Ubuntu 6.06 LTS, and packaging it up in fancy box, with manuals, and other free merchandise and then selling it with their own support package. This sort of thing is exactly what's going to bring gnu/Linux to the masses.

While I did testing for Dapper Drake (6.06) I think I will pass on testing 6.10 for a while, as Catherine has told me I'm not allowed to 'break' anything. So, until I am able to test 'Edgy Eft' (which won't be until after we move, so I might not be able to test at all...) I am going to follow the development and hope for a few small things.
1. When I turn off my computer I would like it to actually turn off, not have X lock up and have to turn off the computer manually with the off switch without it shutting down propperly.
2. Less dependencies. Why, oh why, should I need to remove superkaramba, just to remove xmms? They never depended on eachother when I used Mandriva/Mandrake.
3. Auto-mount FAT32 and NTFS partitions with write access to regular users. Damn, ubuntu's main audience is windows converts, they will mostly be dual-booting and will want to access their windows files without having to manually edit fstab tables or chmod the folders.
4. Less obsession with mono, dammit! I don't want extra kernel modules increasing my boot time to load apps that I want, but rarely use.

OK, that's my rant done, lol. See you all later.

Hmmm...
Ok, so things aren't too great at the moment. Work is OK, I've been everywhere helping loads of people with their work, might be off to London again next week, too... It's all fun :o) I fancy going on the phones, sometime, though, so maybe they'll let me do that for good behaviour, or something...

Aside from that buying the house isn't working out so well, we have a small problem, which could prove critical, but it's fixable if the bank will look favourably on us...

Please cross your fingers for me!!

Rocky Horror
I would have said something lastnight, but I didn't get home until 2:30 am, and I went right to bed!!

It was so cool, I even met Richard O'Brian!! Infact, here's a picture of me and him in our group of people... Note that this was a matinee performance, young children were present and most of us were nervous virgins anyway, so costumes aren't that imaginative (That, and Catherine wouldn't let me shave my head...)

Sorry...
Ok, so we found out yesterday, but I went straight out for a meal with Catherine and her colleagues. Had a really nice Rogan Josh mmmmmm....

Anyway, I got back too late to post an update, so here it is...

*drum roll*
*drrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrm*

*fades*

*anticipation enhancing silence*

They accepted our offer!!!

I've already been called by solicitors touting for business and we have a formal mortgage meeting tomorrow to hopefully get it all rolling. So I'm pretty high right now.

On a side note, it's been a beautiful day today, and when I went to the bank to pay in a cheque, I noticed the Green by the bank was full of people revelling in the sun. It got me thinking... What is it about British Summer that makes everyone strip down to the least possible in public and lounge about on the closest bit of grass they can? It's as if we think every day we have sun will be our only one, and we need to make the absolute most of it possible... Summer lasts about 4 months, guys, no need to go nuts about it!!
